CBI ARRESTS AN INSPECTOR OF INCOME TAX FOR ACCEPTING BRIBE OF RS. FIVE LAKH

The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested an Inspector (Investigation), Income Tax Department, Ernakulam (Kerala) for demanding & accepting an alleged bribe of Rs. Five lakh from the complainant.
A case was registered U/s 7 of PC Act, 1988 against Inspector (Investigation), Income Tax Department, Ernakulam on the allegations that the accused visited the hospital of the complainant on 09.12.2016 & scrutinized the documents relating to Income Tax. It was further alleged that the accused demanded an amount of Rs.10,00,000/- from the complainant, saying that he had done some “favours” to the complainant and later reduced the demand to Rs.5,00,000/-. CBI laid a trap and caught the Inspector of Income Tax red handed while demanding & accepting a bribe of Rs.5,00,000/- from the complainant. Search was conducted at the residential premises of the accused which led to recovery of incriminating documents and cash of Rs.30,000/-(approx).
The accused was produced before the Special Judge, CBI, Cases, Ernakulam and remanded to Judicial Custody till 03.04.2017. He was produced today before the said Court and remanded to one day Police Custody.
