CBI ARRESTS AN EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF ROURKELA STEEL PLANT & A PRIVATE PERSON IN A BRIBERY CASE AND RECOVERS CASH OF RS. 20 LAKH (APPROX) DURING SEARCHES

The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested an Executive Director (Works), Rourkela Steel Plant and a Representative of Kolkata based private firm in a bribery of Rs. One lakh.

A case was registered against ED(Works), Rourkela Steel Plant, Rourkela (Odisha); a GM & a Representative both private persons working in Kolkata based private firm and unknown others u/s 120-B of IPC & sections 7 & 12 of PC Act 1988. It was alleged that the ED(Works), Rourkela Steel Plant entered into criminal conspiracy with said private persons as well as others in the award of supply orders of electrical, electronics, electro-mechanical machineries & parts to Rourkela Steel Plant in favour of  manufacturers whom the private persons represent as well as for smooth execution of those contracts in violation of the laid down rules; and for ensuring the same,  private parties were allegedly paying illegal gratifications both in cash & kind to said ED. It was further alleged that ED(Works) demanded gratification from the company through said two persons of a private firm as he had sanctioned work order in the “AMR Cell” matter in favour of their company while working as In-charge CEO of Rourkela Steel Plant.

After registration of the case, CBI laid a trap and arrested the Executive Director and private person at Rourkela, when the private person handed over bribe amount of Rs.1,00,000/-  along with a watch to ED at his residence . Searches were conducted at 09 places including at Rourkela, Hazaribagh, Ranchi, Bokaro & Kolkata in the premises of the accused persons which led to recovery of incriminating documents. During house search of Executive Director, cash amount of Rs.20 lakh (Approx.) in new currency was recovered. Further investigation is continuing.

The arrested accused are being produced before the Competent Court.
